One tip to make thanksgiving dinner memorable

Recently my wife and I spent a good bit of time watching the Food Network. Now granted, if she wasn’t home, I would be more likely to be watching a ball game, but as one who enjoys eating, I have come to appreciate the Food Network. Something about watching food that you can’t smell or taste but that you know is really good, grabs my attention. Thanksgiving is a time to not only see, but taste and smell good food. If you have been making the same Thanksgiving dinner for your entire adult life, my challenge to you is to try something that you have never done that will wake cut way down on leftovers . Let me suggest deep frying a turkey to make it easier for your family to give thanks for the food.

Here is a video that explains the process from www.thefrugalchef.com

Thanksgiving Treat: How to Make a Turducken

Thanksgiving involves more eating than possibly any other day of the year.  Especially if you have more than one family dinner to attend, you may not want to eat on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving.  If you are feeling a little crazy and would like to try a new Thanksgiving treat, then you should consider a turducken. A Stock Tip Worth Remembering

So let’s first start with the initial confession that I have only owned mutual funds through a boring IRA.  Never have I delved into the world of individual stocks through a broker or E-trade, though I certainly like the idea.  That being said as a disclaimer, sometimes I think people with good common sense are able to help those who maybe just are small time investors.  I don’t know about you, but in the past I have sat down at a table for a meeting with a couple of financial advisors.  I like talking to them.  The problem is that just like many mechanics, they seem to talk fast and use big financial words and concepts that lead me to believe, at the end of the day, the message they want you to hear most is “This is a little too complicated for you.  Just give me the money and I will make it all work.”  Continue Reading…

Happy Wife Tip – How to be a good Listener

Being a good listener is not a natural strength for me, but I’m not sure it is truly “natural” for any of us.  Obviously, we all know the difference in a good and bad listener.  I have spent the majority of my life in the bad listener category, but am trying to commit listening treason by crossing over to the good.  Continue Reading…

Masculine or Madness?- Noodling for Catfish

Noodling for catfish is both masculine and madness at the same time.  First, let’s get a quick definition out of the way for those of you whose sheltered lives have not let you even become familiar with the term “noodling”.  Noodling is catching catfish with your bare hands.  No, I did not stutter.  A human being jumps into the river or lake and reaches under a rock or log and lets a huge catfish bite down on his hand while he pulls it out and holds it up with a smile sometimes consisting of less than a half dozen teeth. Characteristics of a Leader – Resolving Conflict

There are many defining characteristics of a leader, but one of the most difficult is the ability to resolving conflict the right way.  This takes humility, courage, and character.  This answers the question “What is a leader”?  These are defining qualities of a leader.  Resolving conflict is a not only a challenge to manhood, but unfortunately, also a mystery to many men.  For some reason, completing a triathlon, being a good listener, and swallowing our pride to ask forgiveness, all fall in about the same difficulty level for many men including myself.  Though resolving conflict with another person, especially your spouse, is never easy, I don’t want ignorance to be an excuse any longer.  Pride may be your failure in accomplishing this daunting task, but ignorance will not.  Here are the key points to remember in resolving a conflict as laid out in the Bible  and elaborated on in Douglas Wilson’s book Reforming Marriage.
